国家自然科学基金通讯评审专家、教育部科技奖励通讯评审专家、教育部学位中心学位论文通讯评审专家、多个省市自然科学基金通讯评审专家。先后主持国家自然科学基金(210470045120206551572077)、湖南省自然科学基金09JJ30272015JJ2030、湖南省科技重大专项(2009FJ1008)等10余项课题。

在能源和环境领域取得多项创新性成果。近年来已在包括  Advanced Functional Materials (IF = 15.621)Applied Catalysis B-Environmental (IF = 14.229)Journal of Materials Chemistry A (IF = 10.733)Small (IF = 10.856)等国际知名刊物在内的SCI期刊上发表学术论文30余篇SCI他引2000余次,多篇论文入选Highly cited paperHot paper相关研究成果已经申请专利16,主编《石墨烯基功能材料在环境中的应用》1、获得湖南省自然科学一等奖。首次提出了一步电沉积方法制备石墨烯薄膜,国际媒体ChemPubSoc Europe旗下的ChemistryViews对研究工作进行了亮点报道,石墨烯的一步电沉积方法被写入国际电化学协会纳米电化学手册Handbook of Nanoelectrochemistry, ISBN978-3-319-15267-7)。开发出双网络凝胶新型重金属吸附剂,获国家发明专利,研究成果被湖南卫视、央广网、凤凰资讯等20余家媒体报道。毕业 研究全部获省优或校优论文。毕业研究生在企业成为技术骨干和研发机构核心成员。
